In 2012 Saxonby directors James Wood & Andrew Copson were approached by the new board of Trustees of The Shropshire & West Midland Agricultural Society with a plea for help.
The 140 year old society had lost its way in life and as a result of this was suffering financial difficulties and required vision and direction to ensure a successful future.
The society operates the 53 acre site known as The Shropshire & West Midland County Showground that is located on the fringe of Shrewsbury Town Centre. The facility had suffered from many years of neglect and lack of investment and was in need of urgent repairs, to ensure its viability going forward.
In April 2013 a Saxonby lead ‘Ground Force’ Style Makeover weekend took place, over £100,000 of labour and materials was donated by local businesses and individuals. Over 100 volunteers gave up their weekend and vast improvements were achieved.
Saxonby now watches with much interest and pride as the local agricultural community continue to manage the Society.
