Work on a new affordable housing scheme in the village of Drakes Broughton, Worcestershire officially started last week.

Commissioned by Festival Housing Group and developed by Shrewsbury based home builder and affordable housing specialist Saxonby, representatives from the two companies and a number of local councillors attended a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the site.

Once completed next spring, the £1.4M development will consist of nine, two and three bedroom homes and two bungalows, all for rent. Built to the highest and most current environmental standards, including timber frames using wood from renewable sources, each property will be extensively insulated and include a gas condensing boiler.

Launching the new scheme, Clare Huyton, director of homes and communities at Festival Housing Group said: “We are very pleased to be building this development in the village of Drakes Broughton. I want to thank Wychavon District Council for working with us on our plans and we look forward to completion in March 2013, when we can provide local people with new affordable homes in which to live.”

Following its successful partnership with Festival Housing Group on the Leintwardine village development in Herefordshire, Andrew Copson, director at Saxonby said: “Saxonby is delighted to be working with Festival Housing Group again. I believe we are creating an efficient partnership, that delivers a first-class product, on time, in budget, and safely.”
