In 2010 Saxonby became headline sponsors of The Shrewsbury & District Evening Cricket league. Established in 1978, the league is one of the most successful in Shropshire. Over the past three years the number of teams has increased from 27 to 41 with around 500 players participating each week.
Saxonby’s aim is to provide a stable financial basis and help contribute to the long term stability of the expanding league, give something back to the community as part of its corporate social responsibility and encourage young people away from anti-social behaviour into sport.
In 2012 Saxonby signed an enhanced 3 year sponsorship package including the introduction of 'The Saxons' a touring representative side that raises money for Charities and Cricket Clubs across the County.
Please get in touch if you would like to play 'The Saxons' for a good cause.
"The S&DECL have in the past four years seen a significant uptake in their membership, with a record number of teams and players participating in the League.
This has been due in part to a hard working Committee and also Saxonby, a very supportive sponsor. The Committee have during this period undertaken initiatives to encourage more participation in the League. These initiatives have proved popular with participating teams and with Saxonby’s continued involvement we have further plans for improvement. This joint commitment will continue to heighten the League’s profile and the impact it has across Shropshire and local communities.
Saxonby are always willing to engage in discussing idea’s and are able to give guidance from a sponsor’s perspective. They are extremely supportive of the League and Committee which ultimately shows their confidence in what we are doing.
There are 29 clubs represented across the length and breadth of Shropshire with some 350 plus players participating each week. 15-20% of players are in the under 18 age group and several female players are also involved.
2012 saw the League awarded an Outstanding Shropshire Cricket Achievement Award (OSCA) for the contributions it makes to the County cricketing scene which could not have been achieved without Saxonby’s support and their desire to be involved in cricket and the community.
